December 14, 2004 - The Warr Acres Police Department was in need of a highly trained police dog. The new dog was to be used not only for fighting crime, but also for school education programs that teach children the dangers of drug abuse. Training for the dog includes narcotics detection, tracking missing persons or fleeing criminals, building searches and other law enforcement functions. The community helped with donations for the necessary equipment for this project by raising $5,500. With the added $5,000 from NACOP donors Warr Acres Police Department received a K-9 grant for $10,500. Support of this project is viewed as an investment in the community. Not only will the K-9 team provide educational and law enforcement services to Warr Acres, but will also be available to assist neighboring communities when necessary. Having a K-9 team on-call provides an extra measure of confidence for our citizens and law enforcement officials alike. |
