Imperial Estates Elementary "Pennies for Puppies"
Every year the Student Council at Imperial Estates Elementary School supports a community fund-raiser. Their project for 2004 was to help raise money for a new Titusville, Florida Police K-9.
Imperial Estates Elementary School has several parents/family members who work for the police department. One of them, an officer who currently works with the Titusville Police K-9 program, has taken the K-9 to the school on many occasions to show the students and faculty the importance of a K-9 unit.
Imperial Estates Elementary School joined efforts with the National Association of Chiefs of Police to raise $5,600 for the Titusville Police Department. Through the efforts of the Student Council and families and businesses in the community, the school raised $2,800 for the project.
To raise money the students had a variety of competitions that included top class with the most money in a week, and individual class goals. Three classes exceeded the $200 mark. One class remained the leader until an underdog passed them and won by $16.72. The top class received a field trip to the American Police Hall of Fame and lunch, second place received choice of lunch and ice cream, and third place received Dairy Queen Blizzards.
