Medina County Sheriff's Department needed funds to replace their K-9, Vonko. Vonko retired on August 29, 2004 due to a knee injury. Vonko served for more than 4 ½ years with the Medina County Sheriff's Office and first started his career with Sgt. James Cartwright. While with Sgt. Cartwright, Vonko located a lost boy in the woods. He also obtained a bite in Wadsworth. After his time with Sgt. Cartwright, he was transferred to Deputy Dan Kohler, which led to Vonko doing several tracks and locating suspects. One of the tracks was over a mile long which led to three suspects being apprehended. Not to mention all of the drug interdiction Deputy Kohler and Vonko have done. On September 1, 2004, Vonko was replaced by Casey. Casey is a German Shepherd that is also a dual purpose dog for the Sheriff's Office. Deputy Kohler and Casey are very eager to serve Medina County.
