November 11, 2004 - For years, the Township of Margaret, Alabama has consistently waged a battle in the war on drugs. Recent crime trends have revealed a significant increase in drug related activities within our own local community. Accordingly, national statistics indicate that drug and alcohol related incidents are also on the rise, and that 7 out of 10 families either have a family member with a drug problem or know someone who does. To combat this ever-increasing drug abuse epidemic, law enforcement agencies throughout the United States have successfully utilized K-9s to effectively meet these challenges. Factually speaking, the employment of law enforcement K-9s is one of the best tools law enforcement agencies have to detect illegal substances. The National Association of Chiefs of Police (NACOP) joined with the Margaret Police Department in a campaign to raise funds to continue strengthening its Police K-9 program. Together they raised $6,350 for their K-9 program. |
